performance vision for your lower legs

The Product

ELVEE is a biomechanics lab in a shoe. It incorporates measurement technologies that exist only in state-of-the-art laboratories into a small, portable insert and ankle electronics package. The inserts replace ordinary shoe insoles and fit into any standard boot or running shoe and the ankle package is adjustable. ELVEE can determine weight, movement, and joint patterns like ankle position, forces on the ankle, weight distribution, and ankle power in real-time conditions.

Our Mission

At ELVEE, we leverage smart insights to elevate your capabilities. We are on a mission to guide athletes and soldiers to safely push their training limits while preventing injury. Our interdisciplinary team has developed and refined ELVEE into a data-driven, yet easy to use, fitness technology and user interface. We are committed to providing a quality product that meets the specific training needs of those who have to perform their best.

Technology

Value Proposition Statement

Training programs for both athletes or military personnel are plagued with 30-80% annual injury rates. Injury prevalence has not improved in the past 50 years, despite the research and technology innovation over that time. Current fitness technologies monitor cardiovascular and respiratory metrics in real time, but no mainstream products provide day-to-day training insights into lower leg movement. While some pressure insoles have debuted in recent years, none have been integrated with lower leg movement monitors and existing user interfaces to display the data are limited.

ELVEE is an integrated insole and ankle movement system that provides insight into lower leg movements. Designed with soldiers and rugged athletes in mind, ELVEE is durable through sweat, mud, and wet conditions and it can monitor and withstand high impact. ELVEE’s user interface displays the information in real time you need to safely push yourself to the limits of high-intensity training. Detailed data streams are available for download to carefully track training history and the impacts on performance outcomes.

How It Works

ELVEE was designed to reduce the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries in active-duty service members. ELVEE replaces the user’s existing insole and connects to an ankle package containing additional sensors, the battery, microprocessor, and wireless communication. ELVEE has a unique sensor communication approach that promotes efficiency and results in a battery life of more than 16 hours, enabling all-day use or consecutive workday use without recharging. A mobile application will provide real-time insights and informative visuals to alert users to maladaptive movement patterns. This will reduce injury and maximize performance and training.

Applications

The Department of Defense does not have a quantitative way to measure the impact of equipment and training on warfighter performance and to determine physical readiness in real-world environments. ELVEE can:

  • Support training programs (basic and specialized), routine operations, and operational mission units;
  • Assess an individual’s performance or gauge overall impact of an activity on a unit, battalion, squadron, etc.;
  • Determine impact of equipment on warfighter physical performance (e.g. balance, load distribution, fatigue and performance analysis).

Up to 80% of athletes experience a musculoskeletal injury each year. The number-one modifiable risk factor for injuries is overuse. However, athletes have no insight into the volume and amount of lower leg stress from training. ELVEE provides that insight by:

  • Displaying real-time movement patterns
  • Indicating movement pattern changes indicative of fatigue, when injuries are more likely to occur
  • Determine the impact of training programs on lower leg performance
